Easiest Sweet and Spicy Beans

I haven't made beans in so long and it seemed to be the perfect side for my BGE Sweet and Spicy Ribs.

Now that I know using canned beans and adding your own ingredients takes on a whole new meaning of baked beans not to mention all you need is 30 minutes.  I made these for my company and never let them know they were semi-homemade and everyone just loved them.

I used 2 tablespoons of the rub I made with the Ribs.  If you are not making the ribs then here is an easy recipe for the spices.

Ingredients for Spices!

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 16 ounce cans Vegetarian Baked Beans
  • 2 tablespoons of Sweet and Spicy Rub or Spice mixture above
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 teaspoon dried mustard

  1. In your large Dutch Oven over medium heat add in oil. Once hot add in bacon and cook until almost crispy (you don't want it crispy).  Remove from pan using a slotted spoon and set on a paper towel lined plate.

  2. Keeping the pan over a medium heat add in the onions and let cook for 5-7 minutes; or until translucent.  Season with salt.

  3. Add in both cans of beans, rub mixture, molasses and dried mustard.  Add in the bacon then stir and cover.  Reduce temperature to a medium-low and let cook for 30 minutes.

  4. Taste for additional seasonings.  Serve with my Ribs or your favorite recipe.
