Steel Oats Meatballs with Sweet BBQ Sauce

It was my grandson Brady's 1st birthday and I wanted to bring something perfect for a buffet item.  I just love steel oats oatmeal and knew my soon to me daughter-in-law does as well and decided to make these.

I didn't follow any inspired recipe it was make as I went along!  I did make 3 pounds worth so this is a perfect party meatball.  You can make them any size.   used a small ice cream scoop to keep them all the same size.  Enjoy

  • 3 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup quick cooking steel oats
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cups flour
  • ----Sweet BBQ Sauce---
  • 1 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 cup distilled white vinegar
  • 1/2 cup grape jam

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

  2. In a large mixing bowl add in beef.  Separate with a fork then add in steel oats, milk, salt and pepper.  Combine well and make your meatballs.

  3. Take a large baking sheet or 2 if you don't have one large enough and add in oil to coat the bottom.

  4. Put flour in a large plate or bowl.  Roll each meatball in the flour and place in the baking dish.  Bake in the oven for 25 minutes.  (If larger meatballs then cook for 30 minutes)

  5. In a sauce pan stir ketchup, garlic powder, onion powder and vinegar together. Cook over a medium heat for about 7 minutes.  Add in grape jam and whisk together.  Pour over meatballs and enjoy!

  6. These can be baked in advance and covered with the bbq sauce.  Just cover and refrigerate.  To warm heat oven to 350 degrees F. for about 15 minutes.  Serve and enjoy!
