Best Strawberry Shortcake Recipe

Doesn't everyone just love Strawberry Shortcake!  Everyone I know does and there is nothing better than homemade shortcakes.  It also tells your family or friends that you love them!  

Cindy's Note:  If you have the "big" sugar that would be great to sprinkle on top.  If not, just use your regular sugar!



  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (plus more for sprinkle)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold
  • 1 cup milk, room temperature


  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. F.  

  2. In a large mixing bowl sift flour and baking powder.  Add in sugar and use a whisk to combine together.

  3. Cut the cold butter into small cubes and add to the flour mixture and either use your hands to combine or a dough blender.  You want the mixture to appear as coarse crumbs.  Slowly add in milk and combine together until you have a ball of dough.

  4. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.  Use an ice cream scoop or large spoon to drop a heaping mound of dough on the baking sheet.  You will have enough dough to make 8 shortcakes.

  5. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until browned lightly.  Cool on a wire rack.

  6. To serve as a  Strawberry Shortcake add some of my strawberry and apple jam then top with fresh strawberries and cream.
