Valentine’s Day Gifts or Gas!

It’s almost Valentine’s day and most of us in love want to make it a special night! Maybe the kids are going to your parents house for a sleep over or you plan on leaving work a little early to set up the kitchen and bedroom just right.  What ever you decided for your special night then be sure to read this entire blog post!

I would much rather cook a meal for my Valentine so we can have a romantic evening at home without being rushed and eating a prefix meal. You can even plan a dinner that you can cook together.  Maybe some fun in the kitchen while dinner is cooking.  If going out is your thing then call the restaurant to find out what’s on the menu and how flexible they are if you customize a dish without making it difficult or embarrassing for you.

What ever you decide to do on this most romantic night of the year we want to feel good all evening.  Getting to my point - none of us want to have any stomach issues or gas after we eat if we are planning for some romance after dinner. (You know what I am talking about).

I am going to guide you through foods to eat and stay away from so you can happily put on that sexy lingerie you have waiting to put on and turn your man on for the special evening.

We have all heard the way to a mans heart is through his stomach.  Well yes that is true and for those new relationships or long time marriages a Valentine’s Day is a special night for the two of you!

  • Let me start with some eating tips and food to stay away from for your Valentine’s Dinner!
  • Stay away from fatty foods – they can make your belly feel bloated.
  • Eat slow.  Eating fast or drinking through a straw can give you an upset stomach.
  • Smoke – that is yucky anyway especially if you want to kiss!

Say away from

  • Apples
  • Beans
  • Broccoli
  • Brussels sprouts
  • Cabbage
  • Candy
  • Cauliflower
  • Gum (yes chewing gum can give you a bloated stomach)
  • Lettuce
  • Milk
  • Onions
  • Peaches
  • Peas
  • Pears
  • Soda
  • Whole grains

If you have heartburn or acid flux then be sure to take your medication or over the counter antacids during the day and before dinner.

Here are some foods that you can create great recipes from and will not cause you gas or a bloated stomach.  But do drink lots of water all day and during your romantic evening.  Cooking with extra virgin olive oil will also help!  I kept this list short and sweet.  Really just eat light and eat slow in a small plate.

  • Artichokes
  • Carrots
  • Butternut Squash
  • Pumpkin
  • Strawberries
  • Tomatoes
  • Zucchini

Here are some of my recipes that are easy to make, can be prepped in advance and will be easy on the belly for you to enjoy Valentine’s Day.  Just remember don’t over eat so perhaps you want to serve dinner in smaller plates and enjoy several courses so you don’t eat fast.

As for gifts your on your own but I believe expensive gifts are not necessary.  I just love a romantic evening spending time showing how much we love each other!
