Being the Holiday Host

Hosting a holiday can be a very stressful job. You have to prepare the food, set the table, decorate the house, and on top of it all you have to entertain the guests. If you have ever hosted a holiday at your house before you may understand how hard it is to get all of these tasks done on time. Hopefully you have created a system that works for you in order to ensure a great holiday for you and everyone around you. However, if you have not yet hosted a holiday, or have not yet perfected such a system you may need a little help.

The most important step to being a great host is organization. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get everything done on your list. This may require planning ahead of time so that you do not fall behind and end up getting stressed with way too many things to do. This will cause you to get extremely overwhelmed and you will not be able to enjoy your holiday like you deserve to. In order to get organized you need to start by making a plan.

Firstly, you need to get a guest count before you can do anything else. Getting a guest count early will allow you to plan accordingly. This way you will know how many places you need to set and how much food you need to prepare.

As soon as you have an idea of the number of guests soon to enter your home you can start to prepare your house. You can start preparing your home by cleaning it and then decorating it appropriately for the holiday. You can also set up certain areas of your home so that it is suitable for all guests. You should make sure the dining area will fit all of your guests and that there is enough seating for all of your guests at the table. If not, you may need to find other areas in your home to seat people. Also, you may want to think about where you will be entertaining your guests after the meal and plan accordingly.

Next you should make a menu for what you wish to feed your guests. As soon as you know what you will be cooking you should make a detailed grocery list based on your menu. This should allow you to get in and out of the grocery store quickly and easily without forgetting any important ingredients you may need.

Now that you have everything that you need to create the perfect holiday in your home all you have to do is prepare the food. Make sure to start early enough so that you finish all your holiday cooking on time. All that is left to do now is enjoy your holiday with your loved ones.

Hopefully these simple steps will help you to have a perfect, stress-free holiday. Just remember to stay organized and start working early to avoid any last minute holiday chaos.
